Newsletter September 2012 Welcome back and welcome to all our new children and parents in EYFS and throughout the school. We also welcome Mr Dawson to our teaching staff. All the children are looking very smart! (We would like this to continue during the year and we will regularly remind the children.) Many thanks for all the Tesco and Sainsbury’s vouchers which have been collected. This year they have been used for equipment in EYFS and Key Stage 1. Clubs taken, by the teaching staff, will start after the half-term holiday. The exceptions will be cookery, choir and orchestra and you will have information regarding these soon. The staff will do 6 week blocks of clubs and you will be kept informed by the organisers by letter/email. During last year we had 11 different clubs organised by teaching staff! This is very positive in a school which has 7 classes! Our theme for the first 2 weeks, for the whole school is, All Things Bright and Beautiful! The children are enjoying doing a huge range of activities. After this there are lots of new themes to look forward to:- EYFS On A Dark, Dark Night Years 1 and 2 Whatever the Weather Years 3 and 4 This is a secret to be revealed! Years 5 and 6 When we discovered the rest of the world. Advice on Asthma We are very aware that when a child has asthma, they need to be able to use their Ventolin (blue) inhaler in order to relieve their symptoms as quickly as possible. The L.A policy, which we follow regarding Asthma and inhalers in school, states that we cannot have an asthmatic child in school if they do not have their prescribed blue Ventolin inhaler with them. If you have told us that your child is asthmatic and has a Ventolin inhaler, it must be brought into school (named please) and given to your child’s teacher who will arrange with the child an agreed ‘safe’ place for it to be kept. Our staff recently attended Asthma training. It is the responsibility of the child’s parents to monitor appropriate use of the Ventolin inhaler. If staff are concerned re overuse they will inform you. The brown steroid inhaler should not be brought into school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Dates for your diaries On September 25th at 6.00pm there will be a meeting for parents of Y5 and Y6. Come and find out more about the residential trip which will take place between Monday 20th May and Friday 24th May 2013. TD days - Friday 21st December and Wednesday 24th July will be TD days – 2 more dates are still to be decided. Holidays – we break up for half term on Wednesday 24th October and return to school on Monday 5th November 2012. The Christmas break will start on Thursday 20th December and school starts for 2013 on Monday 7th January. Parents evenings for the year will take place on on 9th & 11th October and 12th & 14th March 2013. A full diary of dates will follow shortly. We continue to ensure that the children receive an exciting curriculum with outstanding learning opportunities and would like to thank you for continued support in this. K. Nicholas, Headteacher
