Water Companies, with the agreement of the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), can put in place programmes or work to improve water quality to secure compliance with standards. Enforcement Orders are served for failures of mandatory European standards where authorisations cannot be granted. These are served under Section 18 of the Water Industry Act 1991.

Authorisations are for securing compliance with mandatory standards arising from the 1998 European Drinking Water Directive and where contraventions do not pose a risk to health. These are granted under regulation 20 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000.
We currently have no Authorisations in place. 3. Undertakings
