B - Ask the patient to take a breath. Note any abnormalities
C - Ask the patient to show the LIPS
Verify using the 3 Questions or AVPU scale. Call 911 and Treat for Shock as early as possible if you detect a Life Threatening Emergency (ABC emergency) a. SAMPLE - Patient Historyb. Vital Signs (See next page)c. Head to Toe Assessment 4. Treat - Call 911 and treat for Shock/First Aid if there was no Primary Emergency. This is the time to give medications/immobilize
2. pulse - Asses the victim’s pulse, by checking it on the neck or on the wrist for 15 seconds. record the value and multiply by 4 (to get it to bpm). Should be between 60-100 bpm 3. breathing - Asses the victim’s breathing, but do not tell him that you are doing so as it may affect your results. Just say you couldn’t find a pulse, so you are doing it again or something to that effect. Measure for 15 seconds, record and multiply by 4. Should be between 16-20 breaths per minute 4. skin - Asses the victim’s skin color, temperature, and wetness. Should be peachy, warm to the touch and normal moisture. Call 911 if any of these readings are abnormal, and keep monitoring them every so often. THEY ARE A GOOD INDICATION OF A VICTIM DETERIORATING IN CONDITION, so record the results for the paramedics and yourself to track their progress (or digression) FA = 911 + WARTS
