October newsletter For Alpha Kindergarten (Fletton Setting) 2013
We would like to welcome all our new children and families throughout the nursery not
forgetting the return of some families with their new additions! We have some exciting
news that Lisa has had a baby girl called Paige and Jess has had baby boy
congratulations to both families. For those of our family’s who do not know Lizzie
Butcher is expecting her second baby, and Natasha Read –Stevenson will be leaving to go
on her maternity leave on the 6th December we wish them both well. Daniella Bristow
will be returning to work at the end of November after her maternity leave; she will be
doing some back to work days in the next few weeks in pre-school.
It’s that time of year again where the coughs and colds return, can I just remind
parents that we are not allowed to give Ibuprofen based products, unless they have been prescribed. Calpol or Paracetamol products can only be given for a maximum of three days without a prescription. Before any medication can be given parents must fill out a medication form, without this written consent we are unable to give your child medication. For incubation periods for childhood sickness we follow the health protection agency Guidance on Infection Control in Schools and other Child Care Settings.
Winter menusOur new winter menus will be on display and in place on Monday 4th November. We have reviewed the menus based on the Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early years Settings in England, Eat Better start better, written by the children’s Foods Trust. This came about when we took part in the pilot studies for Peterborough City Council if you have any questions please do not hesitate to talk to me or Sarah.
Please can you make sure that your child has a named pair of welly boots, a named warm
coat, gloves hat and a spare change of clothes. Please could you also send your child/ren
Children learning and development All children have a learning journey; please speak to your child’s key person to have a look. You will be given a copy of your child’s next steps to take home with you and please do comment on them, they are set every 8 weeks. A display is currently being created in the hall way to give you some more information about the Frame work that we follow you can also access information at
2 year old checks with the health visitor Please can you speak to your child’s key person when you have received the date for your child’s two year check as we have to complete a 2 year check form on your child development that you should take with you, this is now a legal requirement for us. Thank you.
Children due to start school in September 2014(Children born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010)
Children living in the Peterborough City Council area. The closing date for school applications is: 15th January 2014.
The admission forms are at nursery ready for you to pick up if you have not already done so.
Large cardboard boxes the bigger the better, these will be used to make scenery for
our nativity play. At the nativity we will be holding tombola, any donations for these stalls are gratefully received. Please speak to Rebecca or Sarah if you require any other information
Parent comment and feedback. Please, please can you not open the door to other parents even if you do know them; this is for child protection reasons.
Please can you make sure that you are not dropping your children off before their session times, we must stick to strict ratios set by OFSTED.
OctoberThursday 31st October Halloween Dress up day, with a Halloween menu and pumpkin carving.
November1st November is Diwali lunch cooked by Sue.
Photographer will be in on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th November if your child does not attend on these days and you would like to have their picture taken please could you let Rebecca, Sarah know and we will book you a time.
Guess the weight of Sues’ famous Christmas cake, will start Monday 2ndDecember, with the winner being announced on Wednesday 11th December at 5pm.
Children in Need Friday 15th November, dress up as a super hero day for whole nursery.
December Christmas activities will be happening though out the whole of the nursery.
Christmas room parties Friday 20th December 2pm until 4pm. (Invitations to follow, all children invited.)
Nativity and Christmas raffle Wednesday 11th December Ladybirds and kingfishers rooms only. Will be holding two sessions at 10.30am and 2pm at the life church, just up the road from the nursery. (Invitations to follow.)
On Wednesday 18th December, we will be having a traditional Christmas lunch for the children who are attending nursery on that day.
Term ends for grant only children on Friday 20th December. The next term starts date Monday 6th January 2014.
